class1 Dance Routes has been actively engaged in practice-based research in odissi for many years, focusing on odissiís interface with the temple environment, as well as the folk performing arts. The approach has been inter-disciplinary, encompassing choreology, somatics, yoga, ritual, philosophy, history of art, and pedagogy.

The purpose has been to strive for excellence in the practice of odissi, and create choreography that was expressive of the artistic views of its founders. At Skandavan, all teaching encourages a sense of ownership of taught material through a combined theoretical and practical engagement with dance practice.
